I'm happy to say that I am better now although still dizzy as indicated on the packaging.

How ironic, or appropriate I should say, that I was just medicated and healed enough to play at DizzyPhunk on Tuesday. I've been looking forward to getting out of the house again so I was happy about that timing.

Dizzy is a great Tuesday night shake down that's been going on a few years strong, started by MightyKat and Vincent Lemieux. Last month Microzoo joined their TelePhunk nights together and now we have DizzyPhunk. I know it's hard to keep track of all that important information, so maybe you should take down the RSS feed of this blog and you can start to analyze all the data and get back to me.

I managed to dig up some old timers for the occasion (thanks!!!) and some new friends, and the night started out great as it's always nice to see people come out, especially on a Tuesday (It felt like a Friday but I know it's hard at this age). I was so impressed with the amount of people that showed and the dance floor & bar was full all night. The evening flew by, Nathan Burns who played before me was great, funky tech groove, and people seemed to react to my set very positively :). The feedback has been great since coming back and thanks again to those that came out and expressed yourself with your body and faces. To those that couldn't make it, don't worry there is another 8 weeks of summer ahead!

And so completes phase one of my re-integration into Montreal Society. At first coming back was shocking, but now I see how it works and have made the necessary mental adjustments. I plan on continuing this several step project and explore musical projects with my friends at Microzoo, and see what trouble we can brew up this summer. I've started to hit the production again and I look forward to the rest of the summer with the enthusiasm of a boyscout at a girlscout meeting. As soon as some productions or events are ready I will announce them on this blog. I hope I can put more time into the studio in the coming days and months.

Well the Jazz fest is just around the corner, my old friend Brun from Swayzak will be in town to play which is exciting. So besides the drinking on the streets, I plan on enjoying the festivities with friends from Dominican that will be here as well. I plan on writing about the Dominican experience in my next posting.

You can communicate with me on webcam live. Just visting this link. It's a new venture in internet webcam live girl stuff :)

Live Girls Sexcam
xoxo

RSS Feed

Mutek 2007 Reviewed - The Best & Audion Has Bad Hands - Montreal Electronic Music Festival

After 4 years of living in the Caribbean, I finally made it back to see the 2007 Mutek Festival in Montreal Canada. Having been away for that long, it was amazing to be back here to hang with my old crew. It was a laugh and a half the whole weekend long. I must say, most of what I heard musically was top end, so I'll just jump right into the dirty details.

I started the weekend in perfect style. I Dj'd at a loft party here in Old Montreal with my buddy Soundshaper. Great venue and it was nice to rock the crowd back in my home town. Great feedback from those who were there and I look forward to working in this venue again soon.

With 5 full days of music and well over 60 artists, it's not possible to catch it all, but I did catch a lot, and got feedback from other artists about what I missed. The great thing about the Mutek lineup is that it features many new artists that are playing in Canada or North America for the fisrt time. I started it off at the picnicelectronic, which is the beautiful outdoor day venue for Mutek, located at Parc Jean-Drapeau overlooking the river and the Montreal skyline.

Highlights: Chic Miniature and My My both dropped amazing live sets... nice and deep. Check them out whenever you get the chance. They were sandwiched between 2 DJ sets, starting it off was Claude Vonstroke, who stroked it nicely and had his signature quirky sound in check.

The low point of the day & weekend and award for poser of the year goes to Audion, who performed in his band the night before which is called Mathew Dear's Big Hands. He should call his Audion DJ sets big hands, because it was one of the worst sets I have ever heard at any festival. A complete mashed trainwreck, 3 hours of bad mixes kinda set my rhythm off. No flow to the track selection and after the first half hour of off-beat mixes, Audion seemed to stop trying, or try to seem like he wasn't trying as mixes were just left to flow out of tempo. His hair was very big (big hair and hands) and the black tank top made him look like a pretty boy poser, at least get a tatoo on those arms or something. Very unprofessional to say the least. I've always known Dear to be a talented producer, but obviously mixing is not his strong suit, or he was completely fucked, but there is no excuse for such shit. I don't know how his band did the night before, but nobody mentioned it so I don't know if it was anything, but check out these pics from a recent show here, doesn't 'look' too enjoyable but who knows.

All in all an amazing day unfortunately anti-climatic as the ready to be set-off crowed got dropped like a stone. Audioff. I guess this is what happens to you when you take two bookings in the same festival.

For the evening program we headed off to Metropolis, not the best venue, but it does the job I guess. There were two rooms of music and featured wicked sets from Jichael Mackson, and Gui Boratto. My friend Pheek also did a great live in the other room working his percussion and the crowd into a good place. The evening was taken home by Michael Mayer from Kompakt. Nice set which featured some of my favorite tracks from his label, and some favorite classic tracks including one from Richard Davis. Unfortunately the turntables were skipping most of his set, which was annoying considering this is a major festival now. You would think they could set the table properly.... I guess not. Anyways Mayer played through the technical difficulties with a smile.

Sunday back at the park I was very impressed with the music from Digitaline who just released a long player on Cadenza, Luciano's label. Very deep and moody, subtle stuff from Switzerland. Loved it. Jesse Somfay opened up the day and was also very good.

Next was a live set from Minus prettyboy Heartthrob. Now after the AUDION bad trip the day before I expected more posing, but I was very suprised and he played an amazing acidy clean set. Simple, professional and effective. Nicely done.

Closing out the festival was Sutekh, which was ok but nothing too hot and finally a DJ set from the Wighnomy Brothers, who arelike the greatful dead of house. It was a 'history of house' set feature all old classics, accapellas from days gone by and Detroit style tech house. Good at times but kind of a strange too. Both enjoyable and anoying. Overall too housey and old for me, but whatever these guys were on, it seemed to be working.

Other notables, I did't see it, but the Dub night on Thursday with Rhythm & Sound feat. Paul St. Hilaire I was told was amazing. Saw them a few years ago and you can't miss with these masters from Basic Channel. Kode 9 also played and I was told it was also a highlight of the festival.

We'll Monday is here and it's kind of a rough one as the weekend aural bombardment now is in the history books. All and all a great job, great music and great people. Thanks to Vincent, Lousie & Jonathan for making it extra special.

Scoy
RSS Feed

It's Blag Time? But maybe that's the wrong attitude, maybe I should participate in this global community of words. Maybe it's a good thing to write words people will never read, just for the exercise of doing so. Work the brain yeah?

I'm not convinced, but in any case in my pursuit of knowledge of all that is the new Web 2.0, this is my first entry.
